Built at the beginning of the 20th century
The picturesque village of Platresdali on the slopes of the Troodos Mountains, at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level, away from beaches, cities and bustle. The British were the first to use Platres as a summer vacation spot. In 1878, they conquered the island of Cyprus and turned the village of Platres into a popular resort
Since 1890, the first holiday homes and luxury hotels began to appear in the Troodos Mountains. The first hotel with the name Τα Κρύα Νερά (Cold Water) opened in 1900. In 1905, the Grand Hotel opened its doors, in 1912 - Pafsilipon, in 1915 - Helvetia, in 1920 - Monte Carlo, and in 1936 the Forest Park Hotel was opened
Platres experienced a real tourist boom
After 1905, Platres experienced a real tourist boom. In addition to new hotels of the highest level, numerous bars, taverns, cafes and restaurants have appeared. The first vacationers of the resort were kings and princes, millionaires and entrepreneurs, famous writers and artists

After 1936, there were even more hotels in Platres. The hotels Pendeli, Kallithea, Splendid, Petit Palais, Minerva, Vesna, Vienna, Semiramis, New Helvetia, Edeweis, Mount Royal were built "And" Lanterns "
During the struggle for independence of Cyprus (1955-1959), a British army camp was located in Platres. The hotels were used by the military, so tourists stopped visiting the village
In 1960, Cyprus gained independence and the flow of tourists to Platres began to grow again. In particular, the elite of the Middle East began to rest in the luxury hotels of the mountain resort: Arab sheikhs and sultans with harems, wealthy merchants from Alexandria and Cairo, as well as wealthy Jews from Israel and Lebanon
This continued until 1974 - after the Turkish invasion, the once luxurious mountain resort fell into disrepair
Platres experienced a real tourist boom
Construction of the Splendid Hotel began in 1934. After 1936, he received its first guests, among whom were European aristocrats, writers, politicians, actors and other cream of society. In 1954, the famous Greek poet and Nobel laureate Yorgos Seferis stayed at the hotel for three nights
In March 2021, a large-scale renovation of the Splendid Hotel began and in the summer of 2022 the hotel reopened to guests. After renovation, it has turned into a luxurious SPA hotel with swimming pools, thermal and wellness areas
